Phlebotomists are trained to draw blood samples by puncture of veins, skin, or arteries for medical tests and blood donations.  In the practice of phlebotomy, safety precautions must be taken to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.  Phlebotomists must follow strict policies and procedures while treating the patient with care.

Work Environment

Phlebotomists may work in hospital or commercial laboratories, clinics, large medical offices, and blood banks.
