Dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) are trained in food and nutrition; they provide food service management or nutritional care services under the supervision of a registered dietitian. A dietetic technician may assist a clinical or community dietitian in interviewing patients and taking diet histories, choosing menus based on established guidelines, providing routine dietary counseling, and educating patients regarding their specific nutritional requirements.

Work Environment
Dietetic technicians work independently or in teams with registered dietitians in a variety of employment settings, including health care, business and industry, day-care programs, community or government agencies, foodservice, corporate dietetics, sales/marketing for areas of specialization, corporations, research, and colleges/universities.
